Merriam Saunders (from her website):
I became a psychotherapist because I wanted to help kids and grownups. I work a lot with people who have AD/HD and Autism, so one day I thought it would be good to write a book that might help. I wrote a novel about a boy with AD/HD who brings a tiny T-rex to life with magic and his impulsive mind, and that book found its way to my wonderful agent. Then I wrote lots more novels and picture books, about kids with AD/HD, Autism, OCD, Anxiety. Hopefully, one day all those books will help kids see themselves in my stories and help grownups understand those kids. The books I read over and over when I was little were The Pink Elephant with Golden Spots and The Big Tidy Up. Then, I moved to The World’s Best Fairy Tales, And Then a Harvest Feat and Magnificat. The Little Prince is my all-time fave. As I got older, I ate up J.R. Tolkein, Stephen King, Isabelle Allende and Tom Robbins. My favorite kid authors now are Rebecca Stead, Rainbow Rowell, Katherine Applegate and Jandy Nelson. I live in California and have three kids who are big now, a silly dog and a great big horse.
